Cornwall downs Nepean in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Apr 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cornwall Colts pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Nepean Raiders on a clutch goal by Michael Borkowski. After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Nepean faces elimination next time out. Although Cornwall was up by as many as three goals in the second period, the Raiders kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. Nepean got to within 4-3 on a goal by Dalen Hedges at 1:34 in the third period. Borkowski and Tylor Spink provided the spark for the Colts, combining for two goals and four assists. Borkowski tallied one goal and two assists and Spink also notched one goal and two assists. Cornwall forced Raiders' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Dylan BrindAmour made 16 stops and Matt Zawadzki made 19. Cornwall also got points from Kyle Baun, who also had one goal and one assist and Spink, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Cornwall also had goals scored by Mark Rath, who had one and Marly Quince, who had two. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Tyson Spink, who had two and Mark Hough, Connor Primeau, and Kevin Hope, who each chipped in one. The Colts were unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Nepean eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Nepean additionally got points from Ryan Johnston, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Craig Cowie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Kenneth Neil, who had three and Mac Weegar, Ryan MacLean, Keenan Hodgson, and Brent Norris, who contributed one a piece. Lukas Hafner rejected 43 shots on goal for Cornwall. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Nepean, Brandon Watt was ejected from the game.
