Cornwall sunk by penalties, falls to Nepean 5-2Ed Lumley Arena Tue, Apr 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Allowing the Nepean Raiders to cash in on power play chances sank the Cornwall Colts in a 5-2 defeat. With the win, Nepean evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown. Ben Hutton quarterbacked the Raiders' offense to perfection and bagged three assists in Nepean's win over Cornwall. The Raiders made the Colts' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Lukas Hafner made 23 stops and Matt Jenkins made seven. Nepean put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cornwall to score on any of its five power plays. Nepean additionally got points from Ryan Johnston, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Keenan Hodgson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Nepean included Mac Weegar, who had one and Dalen Hedges, who had two. In addition, Nepean received assists from Ryan MacLean, Craig Cowie, Kenneth Neil, and Brent Norris, who contributed one a piece. The Raiders were unable to stop the Colts from sending pucks towards the net, and Cornwall eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Colts' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in four goals to Nepean's power play unit. The Raiders' Matt Zawadzki stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Nepean incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cornwall incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
