Columbus rides Vigier to victory over Pensacola, 3-1

Ian Vigier stood on his head and made 31 saves to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 3-1 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The win by Columbus clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

The Cottonmouths were led by Greg Beller, who racked up one goal. Beller scored 14:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. Derek Pallardy assisted on the tally.

Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pensacola power plays. The Cottonmouths' offense rang up 31 shots on Pensacola's net.

Columbus additionally got points from John Sullivan, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jordan Braid also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tom Maldonado, who had two.

The Ice Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Pensacola's offense rang up 32 shots on Columbus' net.

The Ice Flyers were led by Ryan Salvis, who scored the team's only goal. Salvis scored 14:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1.

The Cottonmouths incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Steve Christie made 28 saves for Pensacola on 30 shots. The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
