Whitby wins tough contest against Stouffville, 3-2Iroquois - Rink#1 Mon, Apr 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Whitby Fury escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Stouffville Spirit. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Taylor Best secured the win for Whitby with a goal in the third period. With the win, the Fury evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown. Whitby was led by Best, who registered one goal. Best scored 11:52 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. Chris Raguseo picked up the assist. The Fury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Stouffville power plays. Whitby's offense rang up 34 shots on Stouffville's net. Whitby also got a goal from Henry Thompson as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Devin Shore, who had two and Kevin Stevens and Brad McAllister, who each chipped in one. The Spirit's penalty kill unit could not stop the Fury's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Stouffville was helped by Drake Caggiula, who finished with one goal. Caggiula scored 9:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Andrew Doyle assisted on the tally. Alex Botten also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Christian Powers, Michael Robinson, and Paul Geiger, who contributed one a piece. Tyler Feaver recorded 23 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Hale was ejected from the game. The Spirit's Jonathan Hall stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Stouffville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Spirit, Chris Porter was ejected from the game.
