Columbus beats Huntsville 5-0 as Vigier gains shutout

Ian Vigier made 25 saves to complete the shutout and led the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 5-0 win against the Huntsville Havoc.

Sam Bowles had two goals to lead Columbus to victory. Bowles found the back of the net 13:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus and again while 7:08 into the third to make the score 4-0 Columbus.

The Cottonmouths managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Columbus finished below its season average of 6.0 penalty minutes per game. Huntsville was unable to stop the Cottonmouths from sending pucks towards the net, and Columbus eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Columbus additionally got points from Mitch Wall, who also had one goal and one assist. Greg Beller also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Orrin Hergott, Andrew Krelove, and Peter MacDougall, who contributed one a piece and David Cianfrini and Durham, who each chipped in two.

The Havoc could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Huntsville averages 3.3 goals per game.

The Havoc were led by Stuart Stefan, who took four shots.

The Cottonmouths registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Mark Sibbald rejected 26 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
