Fairbanks beats Kenai River 3-2 after comeback scare

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kenai River Brown Bears on the way to a 3-2 win.

Fairbanks made the score 3-1 on a goal by Pavlo Padakin at 7:32 in the third period, and Kenai River got as close as 3-2 when Sean Muller scored 19:53 into the third period.

The win by the Ice Dogs clinched the best of five series at 3-0.

Fairbanks was sparked by Padakin, who finished with one goal.

Fairbanks also got points from Rudy Sulmonde, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Gabe Levin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Sean ORourke, who had one and Max Birkinbine, who had two.

The Brown Bears forced the Ice Dogs goalie Steve Perry to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Matt Thompson also scored for Kenai River. More assists for Kenai River came via Brett Lubanski and Jesse Ramsey, who each chipped in one.

Perry recorded 29 saves for Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kenai River's Austin Severson stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Brown Bears incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
