Murphy nets hat trick, leads Traverse City to 6-2 win over KalamazooMolon Rink Fri, Apr 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Sean Murphy was the highlight in North Stars' 6-2 win against the Kalamazoo Jr. K Wings. Murphy's first goal came 16:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:21 into the second and at 1:59 into the third.After the loss made the series score 1-2 in the best of five series, Kalamazoo faces elimination next time out. Traverse City additionally got points from Will Badner, who also registered one goal and two assists and Chris Leibinger, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Traverse City also got a goal from Jared Van Wormer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Traverse City were Kyle Schempp, Michal Toman, Mitchell Snider, and Eric Rivard, who each chipped in one. The Traverse City North Stars were unable to stop the Jr. K Wings from sending pucks towards the net, and Kalamazoo eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Jr. K Wings were helped by Brandon Flood, who grabbed one goal. Flood scored on the power play 11:44 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Traverse City. Kalamazoo had taken the advantage when Traverse City's Van Wormer got sent off for tripping. Chris Leone provided the assist. Robbie Payne also scored for Kalamazoo. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Anthony Appleyard and Kyle Gattelaro, who contributed one a piece. Kyle Laslo rejected 29 shots on goal for the North Stars. Traverse City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kenneth MacLean took the loss and made 15 saves before being replaced by Alex Okicki who made three saves. The Jr. K Wings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
