Odessa falls to Amarillo in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Ector County Coliseum Mon, Apr 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amarillo Bulls pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Odessa Jackalopes on a clutch goal by John Gustafsson. After the loss made the series score 2-1 in the best of five series, Odessa faces elimination next time out. Amarillo overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Bulls trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Jackalopes' Tyller Robert at 12:55 in the first period. Amarillo tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Omar Mullan at 18:44 in the third period. The Bulls got the win on the strength of a great game by Gustafsson, who had two goals and one assist. Gustafsson scored the first of his two goals at 3:56 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Geoff Fortman picked up the assist. Gustafsson's next tally made the score 4-3 Amarillo with 17:01 left in overtime. Luke Jenkins provided the assist. Odessa was unable to stop Amarillo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulls eventually piled up 65 shots on goal. Amarillo additionally got points from Jenkins, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Amarillo came via John Rey, who had two and Brandon Lubin, Karl Beckman, and TJ Sarcona, who each chipped in one. Odessa also got a goal from Willie Faust as well. In addition, Odessa received assists from Mikko Virtanen, Josh Obregon, Darren Lapic, and Matthew Williams, who contributed one a piece. Amarillo's Mike Taffe stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Bulls totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Connor Hellebuyck made 61 saves for the Jackalopes on 65 shots. Odessa totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
