Amarillo downs Odessa, 5-2

Luke Jenkins registered one point to lead the Amarillo Bulls to a 5-2 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes.

The win gave Amarillo a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

The Bulls' offense rang up 52 shots on Odessa's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Amarillo additionally got points from Geoff Fortman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Amarillo also had goals scored by Brooks Behling, who had one and Mike Davis, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Tyler Deresky and Mike Erickson, who each chipped in one and TJ Sarcona and Omar Mullan, who contributed two a piece.

The Jackalopes were helped by Darren Lapic, who finished with one goal. Lapic scored 8:10 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Amarillo. Ryan Atkinson provided the assist. Odessa also got a goal from Tyler Minx as well.

Mike Taffe made 25 saves for Amarillo on 27 shots. The Bulls totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and four majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Connor Hellebuyck recorded 47 saves for Odessa. The Jackalopes totaled 49 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and three majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
