Austin outlasts Alexandria, 4-2

The Austin Bruins and the Alexandria Blizzard were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Austin made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Chris Fischer at 16:21 of the second period.

The win gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

Austin was paced by Colton Kramer, who tallied one goal. Kramer scored 16:41 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Austin.

Jeremy Finger also scored for Austin. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were Jake Flynn, who had two and Trevor Waldoch, Brandon Wahlin, and AJ Reid, who each chipped in one.

The Bruins were unable to stop Alexandria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blizzard eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Alexandria was helped by Jordan Krebsbach, who had one goal. Krebsbach scored on the power play 13:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Blizzard earned a power play opportunity when Kody Reuter was put in the box for cross checking. Dylan Zink picked up the assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Craig Lindegard, Casey Purpur, and Reid Sturos, who contributed one a piece.

Tyler Bruggeman made 39 saves for Austin on 41 shots. The Bruins totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Jacob Meyers rejected 26 shots on goal for Alexandria. The Blizzard totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
