Columbus downs Louisiana in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Sam Bowles gave the Columbus Cottonmouths a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Louisiana IceGators when he scored 9:23 into the extra period.

The win by Columbus clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

The Cottonmouths nearly gave up a two-score lead. Columbus made it 2-0 on a goal by John Sullivan at 10:57 in the second period. Louisiana pulled to within 2-1 on a goal by Tyler Lyon at 3:17 in the third period.

Sullivan had a great game for the Cottonmouths, netting two goals.

Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the IceGators to score on any of their four power plays. Louisiana was unable to stop the Cottonmouths from sending pucks towards the net, and Columbus eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

In addition, Columbus received assists from Greg Beller, who had three and David Cianfrini, Orrin Hergott, and Andrew Krelove, who each chipped in one.

The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Louisiana's offense rang up 40 shots on the Cottonmouths' net.

The IceGators were led by Shawn McNeil, who finished with one goal and one assist. McNeil scored 5:19 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Ryan Pearson provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Jason Hill and Tyler Fernandez, who contributed one a piece.

Ian Vigier made 38 saves for Columbus on 40 shots. The Cottonmouths incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Louisiana's jeff rose stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The IceGators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
