Springfield holds on for 3-1 win against Janesville

The Janesville Jets tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Springfield Jr. Blues held on for a 3-1 victory.

Springfield made the score 3-0 on a goal by Cody Dixon at 14:15 in the third period, and Janesville got as close as 3-1 when Garrett Cecere scored 18:43 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 2-1 in the best of five series, the Jets face elimination next time out.

The Jr. Blues were led by goalie Gabe Antoni, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Antoni will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.75.

Springfield forced Janesville goalie Tony Kujava to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Jr. Blues was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. Springfield's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game.

The Jr. Blues were helped by Kyle Cook, who had one goal and one assist. Cook scored short handed 5:26 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Springfield. Springfield was on a disadvantage when Mike Williams went off the ice for high sticking. Springfield also got points from Chris Sitler, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Springfield received assists from Kevin Walters, who had one.

The Jets' offense rang up 34 shots on the Jr. Blues' net. Janesville's defensemen bolstered the Jets' offensive attack, as they bombarded Antoni with 18 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Darren McCormick, who had one.

Springfield incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kujava recorded 28 saves for Janesville. The Jets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
