Helena and Missoula were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Helena made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Michael Sullivan secured the win for Helena with a goal in the second period. Helena's penalty kill excelled, as Helena gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. In a losing effort, Missoula was paced by CJ Morrison, who grabbed two goals. Morrison scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Missoula had gained a power play chance when Logan Hawgood was whistled for cross checking. Will Stawinski assisted on the tally. Morrison's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Missoula with 9:59 left in the first period. Brett Mathews provided the assist. Helena kept Missoula's goalie busy throughout the game, and McKinlee Baum made 31 saves on 34 shots. Helena additionally got points from Trevor Tracy, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Cody Blom, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Levi Blom, Balasz Goz, and Tyler Narsing, who each chipped in one. Helena was unable to stop Missoula from sending pucks towards the net, and Missoula eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Missoula's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. In addition, Missoula received assists from Jimmy Morris, who had one. Helena's Jett Salinas stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Helena totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Helena ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blom was ejected from the game. Missoula ended with 54 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and two majors. For Missoula, Corey Schafer was ejected from the game.
