Billings squeaks by Gillette, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Billings escaped with a 4-2 victory over Gillette.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Billy Mata at 16:56 of the second period.

Billings got the win behind a great game by Daniel Chang, who had two goals and one assist. Chang scored the first of his two goals short handed at 11:51 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A head contact call on Joey Ullmann put Billings on the penalty kill. Chang's next tally short handed made the score 4-2 Billings with 14:10 left in the third period. Paul Roefaro assisted on the tally.

Billings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Gillette power plays. Billings forced Gillette goalie Grant Friesen to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Colby Spoonemore also scored for Billings. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Paul Hoffman, who had two.

Gillette's offense rang up 32 shots on Billings' net.

Gillette was helped by Casey Moneer, who grabbed one goal. Moneer scored 14:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Gillette. Stanislav Izvekov picked up the assist. Gillette also got a goal from Tyler Cavan as well. In addition, Gillette received assists from Chris Miracle and Adam Pecht, who contributed one a piece.

Nic Wackerly made 30 saves for Billings on 32 shots. Billings totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Friesen recorded 43 saves for Gillette. Gillette ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major.
