Billings hangs on, beats Gillette 3-1Centennial Ice Garden Sat, Mar 24, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Colby Spoonemore gave Billings the lead in the first period, and Gillette was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. A goal 24 seconds into the the first period by Spoonemore proved to be the game winner, and powered Billings to the victory Sawyer Jacobson assisted on the tally.Billings got the win with help from a great game by Jacobson, who had two goals and one assist. Jacobson scored the first of his two goals at 3:47 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Billings. Nick Rizzo provided the assist. Jacobson's next tally made the score 3-1 Billings with 6:06 left in the third period. Spoonemore assisted on the tally. Gillette was stymied by Billings netminder Nic Wackerly, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. The solid play of Wackerly will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.5. Billings kept Gillette's goalie busy throughout the game, and Grant Friesen made 48 saves on 51 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Jarret Stark and Chase Kimberling, who each chipped in one. Gillette forced Billings goalie Wackerly to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Gillette was led by Stanislav Izvekov, who scored the team's only goal. Izvekov scored 13:34 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Billings. Casey Moneer provided the assist. Billings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Gillette incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
