Georgetown holds on for 2-1 win against Stouffville

The Stouffville Spirit tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Georgetown Raiders held on for a 2-1 victory.

Georgetown took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Stouffville storm back on a Paul Geiger goal 6:04 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win by the Raiders broke a deadlock and gave Stouffville a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

The Raiders' Steven Racine was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 44 saves and let only one puck past him. Racine certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.99 entering the contest.

Georgetown's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Stouffville power plays.

The Raiders were helped by Tyson Fawcett, who grabbed one goal. Fawcett scored 12:59 into the second period to make the score Georgetown. Braden Kavaratzis picked up the assist. Stephen Genua also scored for Georgetown. More assists for Georgetown came via Connor Brown APM, Jacob Bauchman, and Ryan Lopes, who each chipped in one.

The Spirit stifled Georgetown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stouffville's offense rang up 45 shots on the Raiders' net.

Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Alex Botten and Michael Robinson, who contributed one a piece.

Georgetown incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Spirit's Jonathan Hall stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Stouffville incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Spirit ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Chapman was ejected from the game.
