Whitby survives Toronto Lakeshore comeback, wins 4-3Mastercard Centre Tue, Mar 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. A goal by Sam Gray put Whitby up 4-2 in the second period, but Toronto Lakeshore pulled to within one on Alex D Oliveira's tally 2:00 into the third period. After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, the Patriots face elimination next time out. The Fury got the win on the strength of a great game by Gray, who had two goals and one assist. Gray scored the first of his two goals at 1:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Devin Shore picked up the assist. Gray's next tally made the score Whitby with 7:25 left in the second period. Taylor Best provided the assist. Whitby stifled Toronto Lakeshore's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. In addition, Whitby received assists from Brian Hubers and Connor Hale, who each chipped in one. The Patriots put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Fury to score on any of their seven power plays. Toronto Lakeshore was helped by James Ryan, who grabbed one goal. Ryan scored 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. Wes Deme picked up the assist. Shane Cavalieri also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto Lakeshore were Daniel Tedesco, Josh Wiley, and Brandon Willett, who contributed one a piece. Whitby's Tyler Feaver stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Fury incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Joseph Pianta made 10 saves before being replaced by Cory Simic, who took the loss and made six saves. The Patriots incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
