Thorold beats St. Catharines 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Catharines Falcons tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Thorold Blackhawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Thorold took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have St. Catharines storm back on a Johnson Andrews goal 12:47 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With the win, the Blackhawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Owen Sobchak was all over the ice for Thorold, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Sobchak scored at 12:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold and again while 1:06 into the third to make the score 3-2 Thorold.

Colt Kennedy also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Kyle Leto, Robert MacFarlane, Mackenzie Mac Avoy, and Tanner Pagendam, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Blackhawks were unable to stop St. Catharines from sending pucks towards the net, and the Falcons eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

St. Catharines was helped by Luke Karaim, who tallied one goal. Karaim scored 1:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kenny Bradford provided the assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Aaron Taylor as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Ben Dubois, who had one.

Evan Buitenhuis made 36 saves for Thorold on 39 shots. The Blackhawks ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Team's Ed Creighton and Kelly Barchan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Brad Pope recorded 23 saves for the Falcons. St. Catharines totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Falcons, Andrew Darrigo was ejected from the game.
