Strathroy downs Sarnia in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Sarnia Arena Thu, Mar 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Strathroy Rockets pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires on a clutch goal by Derek Nap. After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Sarnia faces elimination next time out. Although Strathroy was up by as many as three goals in the second period, the Legionnaires kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. Sarnia pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Shawn Waldie at 5:02 in the third period. The Rockets was paced on offense by Tyler Duarte and Nap, who combined for five points. Duarte finished with two goals and one assist and Nap also notched one goal and one assist. Strathroy excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Rockets kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Washer made 39 saves on 45 shots. Strathroy additionally got points from Mitch McNeill, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan Field, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Strathroy also got a goal from Jacob Baribeau as well. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Jordan McNaughton, who had two and Coulter Cahill, Greg Milner, Brett Dyck, and Tyler Coleman, who each chipped in one. Sarnia forced Strathroy goalie Dalen Kuchmey to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Legionnaires were led by Daniel Nikandrov, who registered two goals. Nikandrov scored the first of his two goals at 6:12 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Jesse Drydak picked up the assist. Nikandrov's next tally made the score 5-5 with 3:04 left in the third period. Jason Teschke assisted on the tally. Derek D`Andrea also scored for Sarnia. More assists for Sarnia came via Jeff Paulley, Andrew Sokol, Brent Sauve, and Tyler Cicchini, who contributed one a piece. The Rockets' Kuchmey stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Strathroy incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sarnia incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
