Cambridge's Gratton deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Brantford

Cody Gratton was all over the ice for the Cambridge Winter Hawks, as he tallied two goals in Cambridge's 5-2 win over the Brantford Golden Eagles.

Gratton scored at 2:22 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge and again while short handed 11:02 into the third to make the score 4-2 Cambridge.

The Winter Hawks evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Cambridge's penalty kill excelled, as the Winter Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Cambridge kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryce O Hagan made 28 saves on 33 shots.

Cambridge additionally got points from Josh Timpano, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Cambridge also got a goal from Ryan Clarke as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Christian Barnard, Darcy Meyer, and Michael Christou, who contributed one a piece.

The Winter Hawks were unable to stop the Golden Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles were helped by Nate Mitton, who tallied one goal. Mitton scored on the power play 32 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brantford. Tyler Norrie picked up the assist. Jeff Swift also scored for Brantford.

Brendan Gorecki rejected 38 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Cambridge, Trevor Hache and Brennon Pearce were ejected from the contest. Brantford incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
