Cambridge blows out Brantford, 5-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Brantford Golden Eagles.

With the win, Cambridge evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

The Winter Hawks got the win behind a great game by Josh Timpano, who had one goal and three assists. Timpano scored on the power play 1:25 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Cambridge. Cambridge had taken the advantage when Brantford's Jeff Swift got sent off for cross checking. Brennon Pearce assisted on the tally.

The Winter Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Cambridge additionally got points from Cody Gratton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Darcy Meyer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Trevor Hache also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Lawrence Pagnan, who had one and Ryan Clarke, who had two.

Cambridge was unable to stop the Golden Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles were helped by Mike Rebry, who had one goal. Rebry scored on the power play 9:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Brock Campbell had put Brantford on the power play. Swift provided the assist. Brantford also got a goal from Mike Riley as well. More assists for Brantford came via Matt Quilty, who had one.

The Winter Hawks' Brendan Gorecki stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Cambridge registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Bryce O Hagan made 25 saves for the Golden Eagles on 30 shots. Brantford incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
