Johnston's goals lift Nepean to 5-2 victory over Smiths Falls

The Nepean Raiders relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Johnston, who netted two goals, to beat the Smiths Falls Bears, 5-2.

Johnston's tallies came at 8:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Nepean and on the power play 7:17 into the second to make the score 3-1 Nepean.

The win by Nepean clinched the best of seven series at 0-4.

The Raiders' offense rang up 33 shots on Smiths Falls' net. Nepean was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Nepean also got points from Kenneth Neil, who also registered one goal and one assist and Alex Grandmaitre, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dalen Hedges also scored for Nepean. More assists for Nepean came via Ryan MacLean, Tanner Williams, Craig Cowie, Brent Norris, and Ben Hutton, who contributed one a piece.

The Bears were helped by Jeffrey Carroll, who finished with one goal. Carroll scored on the power play 2:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. A cross checking penalty on Hutton had put Smiths Falls on the power play. Matt Robertson provided the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Chris Maniccia as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Robbie Hall, who had one.

Matt Zawadzki made 23 saves for the Raiders on 25 shots. Nepean incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Mackenzie Sawyer rejected 28 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors.
