Elmira downs Stratford in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Elmira Sugar Kings pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Stratford Cullitons on a clutch goal by Brett Priestap.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Elmira faces elimination next time out.

The Cullitons' power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Sugar Kings were paced by Priestap, who registered one goal and one assist. Priestap scored 36 seconds into overtime to make the score 4-3 Elmira. Andrew Smith assisted on the tally.

Elmira forced Stratford goalie Jesse Raymond to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Team could not crack the Cullitons' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Elmira additionally got points from Scott Nagy, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Riley Sonnenburg, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Michael Hasson also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Nick Horrigan, who had one.

Stratford's offense rang up 39 shots on the Sugar Kings' net. The defensemen of the Cullitons were also effective in Elmira's zone, and came away with two goals.

Stratford was led by Tyson Avery, who tallied two goals. Avery scored the first of his two goals at 7:54 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Elmira. Avery's next tally made the score 3-3 with 12:17 left in the third period. Steven Dol picked up the assist. Stratford also got a goal from Pat Looby as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jordan Currie and Brock Reynolds, who each chipped in one.

Horrigan rejected 36 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Raymond recorded 35 saves for the Cullitons. Stratford incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
