London holds on for 6-5 win against St. Marys

The St. Marys Lincolns tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the London Nationals held on for a 6-5 victory.

London took a 6-2 lead during the third period, only to have St. Marys storm back on a Brady Wiffen goal 19:35 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win moved the Nationals to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Paul Hopkins had one goal and two assists to lead London. Hopkins scored 1:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 London. Aaron Dartch picked up the assist.

The Nationals forced the Lincolns' goalies to work all game long, ripping 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. Craig Wood made 17 stops and Devin Golets made nine.

London also got points from Daniel Cameron, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Tyler Bryden, who also racked up one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Pieter Schinkelshoek as well. More assists for London came via Jake Monaghan, who had one and Noah Schwartz and Steven Taylor, who each chipped in two.

St. Marys was helped by Mitch McIntosh, who finished with two goals. McIntosh scored the first of his two goals at 14:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 London. Mitchell Berzins provided the assist. McIntosh's next tally made the score 6-4 London with 8:15 left in the third period. The Lincolns earned a power play opportunity when Taylor was put in the box for slashing. Berzins picked up the assist. St. Marys additionally got points from Sean Consitt, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Marcus Gverzdys, who had one, Brendon Merritt, who had two, and Bryan McCauley, who had three.

Taylor Edwards made 17 saves for London on 22 shots. The Nationals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. St. Marys incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
