London stifles St. Marys' comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The London Nationals, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by London and clinched a 4-2 victory.

The Nationals led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when London's Pieter Schinkelshoek's scored at 18:33 in the second period to put the Nationals up 3-0.

The win gave London a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Nationals got the win on the strength of a great game by Noah Schwartz, who had two goals and one assist. Schwartz scored the first of his two goals at 11:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 London. Daniel Cameron picked up the assist. Schwartz's next tally made the score 2-0 London with 16:08 left in the second period. London had gotten the advantage when the St. Marys Lincolns' Mitchell Berzins was sent off for tripping. Jake Monaghan provided the assist.

St. Marys' power play was ineffective against the Nationals' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

London put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lincolns to score on any of their six power plays.

London also got a goal from Jonathon Sims as well. More assists for London came via Steven Taylor, who had two and Thomas Menechella and Aaron Dartch, who each chipped in one.

The Nationals were unable to stop St. Marys from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lincolns eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

St. Marys was led by Brady Wiffen, who tallied one goal and one assist. Wiffen scored short handed 16:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 London. The Lincolns were on a disadvantage when Shayne Rhyno went off the ice for tripping. Sean Consitt picked up the assist. Calvin Penney also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Jordan Leyser, who had one.

Taylor Edwards recorded 31 saves for London. The Nationals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. St. Marys' Devin Golets stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Lincolns incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
