Ottawa shrugs off penalties, upends Cornwall, 3-1Ed Lumley Arena Sun, Mar 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cornwall Colts failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Ottawa Senators shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1. The win moved Ottawa to down 2-1 in the best of seven series. The Senators were paced by Ben Robillard, who grabbed one goal. Robillard scored on the power play 19:59 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Ottawa had taken the advantage when Cornwall's Brandon Howes got sent off for tripping. Paul Landry picked up the assist. The Senators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Cornwall power plays. Liam Burtt also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Josh Pitt, who had two and Kevin Ryder and Conor Brown, who each chipped in one. The Colts were led by Marly Quince, who scored the team's only goal. Quince scored 3:31 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Howes provided the assist. Ottawa's Charlie Millen stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Senators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Ottawa, Joe Shecter was ejected from the game. Lukas Hafner made 12 saves for Cornwall on 14 shots. The Colts incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
