Gillette outlasts Missoula, 4-2Campbell County Ice Arena Sun, Mar 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Gillette gutted out a close 4-2 win against Missoula. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matt Rose at 11:51 of the third period. After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Missoula faces elimination next time out. Gillette was led by Rose, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gillette forced Missoula goalie McKinlee Baum to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Trent Dillinger also scored for Gillette. More assists for Gillette came via Andrew Lillard, who had one, Adam Pecht, who had two, and Casey Moneer, who had three. Missoula kept Gillette's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Vittori made 41 saves on 43 shots. Missoula was helped by Cory Shafer, who registered one goal. Shafer scored on the power play 12:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missoula. Missoula earned a power play opportunity when Jason Forney was put in the box for interference. Missoula also got a goal from Brett Mathews as well. In addition, Missoula received assists from Will Stawinski and CJ Morrison, who contributed one a piece. Gillette incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Baum recorded 33 saves for Missoula. Missoula incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
