Newmarket falls to Stouffville in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Stouffville Spirit's Chris Porter scored 3:56 into overtime to beat the Newmarket Hurricanes, 2-1 (OT).

Stouffville evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Newmarket was stymied by the Spirit netminder Jonathan Hall, who stopped 38 shots during the victory. Hall certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.38 entering the contest.

Stouffville was led by Porter, who tallied one goal.

The Spirit put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their four power plays. Stouffville forced Newmarket goalie Matthew Wintjes to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Stouffville also got a goal from Andrew Doyle as well. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Thomas Tsicos, Christian Finch, Drake Caggiula, and Brandon Gaudette, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' offense rang up 39 shots on the Spirit's net.

Newmarket was led by Lester Brown, who scored the team's only goal. Brown scored 7:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Daniel Leavens provided the assist.

Stouffville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Wintjes rejected 35 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
