Ayr falls apart in second, loses to Hagersville, 8-1North Dumfries Sun, Mar 11, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hagersville Hawks scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Ayr Centennials and clinch an 8-1 win. After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Ayr faces elimination next time out. Nick Halliday was all over the ice for Hagersville, as he tallied one goal and four assists in the win. Halliday scored 10:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville. Jesse Ross assisted on the tally. The Centennials were stymied by the Hawks netminder Jordan Ironside, who stopped 38 shots during the victory. The solid play of Ironside will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.61. Hagersville made Ayr's goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Lee Doherty made 19 stops and Jordan Witt made 17. The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Centennials to score on any of their five power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Hagersville also got points from Derek Medeiros, who also grabbed two goals and three assists. Hagersville also got a goal from Brock McEachern as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Deacan Krause, Mike Gruhl, and Cole Martin, who each chipped in one. Hagersville was unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Ayr could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 68 minutes in penalties during the game. The Hawks incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Centennials, Jay Fried and Troy Hammer were ejected from the contest.
