Ayr falls to Hagersville in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Hagersville Hawks' Brock McEachern scored 2:14 into overtime to beat the Ayr Centennials, 4-3 (OT).

The win gave Hagersville a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Derek Medeiros was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Medeiros scored on the power play 14:15 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Hagersville had taken the advantage when Ayr's Troy Hammer got sent off for cross checking. Dakota Powless provided the assist.

The Hawks kept the Centennials' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lee Doherty made 37 saves on 41 shots. Hagersville found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays. The Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Greg Longboat also scored for Hagersville. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Aleck Boyd, who had one and Jesse Ross, who had three.

Ayr forced Hagersville goalie Jordan Ironside to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Centennials' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Ayr finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Centennials were led by Andrew Richard, who registered one goal and one assist. Richard scored 2:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Patrick McKelvie assisted on the tally. Ayr also got a goal from Tyler Gauthier as well. More assists for Ayr came via Scott Sippel, Andrew Tapsell, Alex Richard, and Adam Brubacher, who each chipped in one.

Ironside rejected 29 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hagersville registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities.
