Adam Wood had a standout game with 36 saves, and the Clarington Eagles beat the Lakefield Chiefs 4-1. After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Lakefield faces elimination next time out. Clarington's penalty kill excelled, as the Eagles gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Clarington was sparked by Justin Devouge, who finished with one goal. Devouge scored on the power play 13:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. A hooking penalty on Derek Manley had put the Eagles on the power play. Dylan Howorko picked up the assist. Clarington stifled the Chiefs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Tyler Neil also scored for Clarington. Lakefield forced the Eagles goalie Wood to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Chiefs were led by Nathan Larson, who scored the team's only goal. Larson scored 13:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Connor Blair assisted on the tally. Clarington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Lakefield's Dustin Cook stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stephen Woodbeck was ejected from the game. |
