Oakville beats Georgetown 6-1 as Karius gets hat trick

Tyler Karius netted a hat trick to lead the Oakville Blades over the Georgetown Raiders, 6-1.

Karius notched his first tally 3:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:49 into the first and at 17:13 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, Georgetown faces elimination next time out.

The Raiders were stymied by Oakville netminder James Prigione, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. Prigione certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.9 entering the contest.

The Blades forced Raiders' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Steven Racine made 20 stops and Michael Giugovaz made five. Oakville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Oakville additionally got points from Brandon Denham, who also registered one goal and two assists. Martin Kudla also scored for Oakville. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Kyle Blaney, who had two and Stefan Thompson, Stephen Hickey, Chris Taylor, and Liam Board, who contributed one a piece.

The Blades were unable to stop Georgetown from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Oakville incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Georgetown incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
