Norwich rolls over New Hamburg, 7-2

The Norwich Merchants had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the New Hamburg Firebirds.

With the win, Norwich evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Bryan Phillips had one goal and two assists to lead the Merchants. Phillips scored 19:50 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Norwich. Tom Brady assisted on the tally.

New Hamburg's power play was ineffective against Norwich's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Merchants cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring four goals on six chances. Norwich's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Norwich additionally got points from Cole Vinnai, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brady, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Drake Morrell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nick Burdett also scored for Norwich. More assists for Norwich came via Curtis Logan, who had three and Jakob Schira, Jake Jefferies, and Wes StAmand, who contributed one a piece.

The Firebirds' offense rang up 36 shots on the Merchants' net.

New Hamburg was helped by Jaden Goetz, who had one goal. Goetz scored 2:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Norwich. Brady Snyder picked up the assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Sean Kienapple as well. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Sam Murray and Damien Parent, who each chipped in one.

Matt McGonigle rejected 34 shots on goal for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brodij Gerryts recorded 23 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
