Cleveland survives Metro comeback, wins 2-1

Ice Land U.S.A.    Fri, Mar 16, 2012

The Metro Jets tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks held on for a 2-1 victory.

Cleveland made the score 2-0 on a goal by Andrew Mitch at 5:28 in the second period, and Metro got as close as 2-1 when Steve Klisz scored 19:20 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, the Jets face elimination next time out.

Metro was stymied by the Jr. Lumberjacks netminder Alexander Larson, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. Even though Larson played well, his goals against average suffered, as his one goal against exceeded his season average of 1.0.

Cleveland pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Jets were unable to stop the Jr. Lumberjacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cleveland eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Cleveland also got a goal from David Fassbender as well. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Cameron Dimmitt and Kyle Fink, who contributed one a piece.

Metro forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie Larson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

More assists for Metro came via Cameron Bazin and Trevor Bardallis, who each chipped in one.

Cleveland registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Dillon Kelley recorded 31 saves for the Jets. Metro incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
