Alexander, Lekun lead Walkerton over Mitchell, 7-4

Behind two goals from Adam Alexander and two goals Eric Lekun, the Walkerton Hawks downed the Mitchell Hawks 7-4.

Alexander scored the first of his two goals at 18:58 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Walkerton. Haden Campbell picked up the assist. Alexander's next tally made the score 6-4 Walkerton with 51 seconds left in the third period. Andy Mitchell provided the assist. Lekun scored the first of his two goals at 14:32 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Walkerton. Jay Thomson picked up the assist. Lekun's next tally made the score 7-4 Walkerton with 10 seconds left in the third period.

The win by Walkerton clinched the best of seven series at 0-4.

The Hawks kept Mitchell's goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 37 saves on 44 shots. Walkerton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Hawks finished with 30 penalty minutes.

Jordan Turcotte also scored for Walkerton. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Shane MacDonald and Andrew Graham, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks stifled Walkerton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mitchell's offense rang up 36 shots on the Hawks' net.

The Hawks were led by Tyler Masson, who tallied two goals and one assist. Masson scored the first of his two goals at 5:44 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brendan Nicholson provided the assist. Masson's next tally made the score 2-1 Mitchell with 2:47 left in the first period. Jeff McArdle assisted on the tally. Mitchell also got a goal from Jade Maxwell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Chris Newcombe, Tyler Tolton, Jalen Aitcheson, and Ryan Magagnin, who each chipped in one.

Walkerton's Jeff Flagler stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Hawks registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Mitchell incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
