Walkerton beats Mitchell 7-2 as Bujold gets hat trick

Mike Bujold netted a hat trick to lead the Walkerton Hawks over the Mitchell Hawks, 7-2.

Bujold got on the scoresheet 1:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:21 into the second and at 7:51 into the third.

The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Walkerton gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks kept Mitchell's goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 35 saves on 42 shots. Walkerton was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes.

Walkerton also got points from Matt Hill, who also registered one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Jordan Turcotte, who had one and Eric Lekun, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Ryan Stroz, who had two and Andy Mitchell, Andrew Graham, Jay Thomson, David Jones, and Haden Campbell, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Mitchell eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mitchell was helped by Ryan Magagnin, who finished with one goal and one assist. Magagnin scored 4:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. Tyler Tolton assisted on the tally. In addition, Mitchell received assists from Derek MacDonald and Brendan Nicholson, who each chipped in one.

Walkerton's Jeff Flagler stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Hawks registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
