Pyramid Recreation Centre    Fri, Mar 02, 2012

The St. Marys Lincolns relied on the sparkling performance of Craig Wood in net to grab a 2-1 win against the St. Thomas Stars.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, St. Thomas faces elimination next time out.

St. Marys was led by Reid Oliver, who finished with one goal. Oliver scored on the power play 2:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Marys. The Lincolns had gotten the advantage when the Stars' Scott Mitchell was sent off for roughing. Brendon Merritt picked up the assist.

St. Marys' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. Thomas power plays.

Calvin Penney also scored for St. Marys.

St. Thomas' offense rang up 32 shots on the Lincolns' net. The Stars were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time.

St. Thomas was led by Drew Collinson, who scored the team's only goal. Collinson scored short handed 13:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. A boarding call on Justin Clark put the Stars on the penalty kill. Marcus Michalski assisted on the tally.

Craig Wood made 31 saves for St. Marys on 32 shots. The Lincolns incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Michael Slaats rejected 16 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clark was ejected from the game.
