Kitchener completes comeback, beats Brantford, 3-2

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Kitchener Dutchmen battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Brantford Golden Eagles.

Kitchener never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Dutchmen was down 2-0 after a goal by Brantford's Trent Hawke at 17:59 in the second period. Kitchener tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Steven Jakiela at 3:16 in the third period. The Dutchmen scored the game winner at 18:54 in the third period on a goal by Jakiela.

The win moved Kitchener to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

The Dutchmen were led by Brett Clampitt, who registered one goal.

Kitchener put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Eagles to score on any of their four power plays. The Dutchmen were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Kitchener also got a goal from Eric Hammerl as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Matt Guild, who had two and Jared Gilbert, Robin Clarke, Phil Edgar, and Dan Campbell, who contributed one a piece.

Kitchener was unable to stop Brantford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Eagles eventually piled up 52 shots on goal. Brantford struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 14 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

The Golden Eagles were helped by Brett Appio, who tallied one goal. Appio scored 2:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brantford. Brandon Montour picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Jeff Swift and Mike Riley, who each chipped in one.

Mario Duscio rejected 50 shots on goal for the Dutchmen. Bryce O Hagan made 27 saves for Brantford on 30 shots.
