Strathroy blows out Leamington, 8-2

The Strathroy Rockets had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over the Leamington Flyers.

The win by Strathroy broke a deadlock and gave the Rockets a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Nick Boyer quarterbacked Strathroy's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Rockets' win over Leamington.

The Flyers' 14 penalties came back to haunt them, as Leamington let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

Strathroy made Flyers' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 52 shots and forcing 44 saves. Darien Ekblad made 27 stops and Colin Greeley made 17. The Rockets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Strathroy's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Strathroy also got points from Tyler Duarte, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Jordan McNaughton, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Davis Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Derek Nap, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Strathroy included Justin Thomas, who had two and Brent Andriash and Ryan Field, who each put in one. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Shawn Grogan, Mitch McNeill, Stuart King, Brian Brosnan, and Dalen Kuchmey, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers' offense rang up 33 shots on the Rockets' net. Leamington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 68 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flyers were helped by Tony Spidalieri, who racked up one goal. Spidalieri scored on the power play 3:24 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. Leamington had gotten the advantage when Strathroy's McNaughton was sent off for tripping. Adam Hughes provided the assist. Kyle Bowman also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Nick Beaune, Matt Ogden, and Dakota Olvin, who each chipped in one.

Kuchmey rejected 31 shots on goal for the Rockets. The Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
