Elmira beats Listowel 2-0 as Horrigan gains shutout

Nick Horrigan made 31 saves to complete the shutout and led the Elmira Sugar Kings to a 2-0 win against the Listowel Cyclones.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Listowel faces elimination next time out.

Elmira was sparked by Michael Hasson, who registered one goal. Hasson scored on the power play 1:01 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. The Sugar Kings had taken the advantage when the Cyclones' Matt Halloran got sent off for tripping. Brad Kraus provided the assist.

Elmira put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Listowel to score on any of its four power plays. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 46 shots on the Cyclones' net.

Elmira also got a goal from Wade Pfeffer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Cass Frey, Brett Priestap, and Scott Nagy, who contributed one a piece.

Elmira was unable to stop Listowel from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cyclones eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Sugar Kings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Elmira, Kraus was ejected from the game. Brandon McDonald recorded 44 saves for Listowel. The Cyclones incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
