Cambridge hangs on, beats Guelph 4-2Galt Arena Gardens Sat, Mar 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cambridge Winter Hawks took the lead against the Guelph Hurricanes in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory. Cameron Pentsa provided Cambridge with the game-winning tally when he scored 16:53 into the the first period. Josh Timpano assisted on the tally.With the win, the Winter Hawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Ryan Clarke was all over the ice for Cambridge, as he registered two goals in the win. Clarke's tallies came at 16:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 18:55 into the third to make the score 4-2 Cambridge. Guelph was unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Winter Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Cambridge finished with 16 penalty minutes. Cambridge also got a goal from Darcy Meyer as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Trevor Hache, Dylan Decker, Anthony Guido, Brennon Pearce, and Brendan Gorecki, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes forced the Winter Hawks goalie Gorecki to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Guelph could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The Hurricanes were helped by Michael Wilkins, who finished with one goal. Wilkins scored on the power play 13:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. Guelph earned a power play opportunity when Guido was put in the box for tripping. Mitch Klie provided the assist. Nic MacEachern also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Mike Charbonneau and Chris Zubac, who contributed one a piece. Gorecki rejected 34 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Colin Furlong recorded 34 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Daniel Cotroneo and Mark Bell were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
