Port Colborne downs Stoney Creek in overtime, 4-3 (OT)West Side Arena Tue, Mar 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Colborne Pirates pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Stoney Creek Warriors on a clutch goal by Zach DeConcilys. The win by Port Colborne broke a deadlock and gave the Pirates a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Although Port Colborne was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Stoney Creek kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Warriors pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Derek Searle at 6:28 in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Stoney Creek was unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Colborne eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Pirates were led by Carson Minor, who racked up two goals. Minor scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Port Colborne had gotten the advantage when the Warriors' Luke Nogard was sent off for too many men. Nick Schiro assisted on the tally. Minor's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Port Colborne with 13:56 left in the second period. The Pirates found themselves down a man on James Tyminski's slashing. Jordan Warren provided the assist. Port Colborne additionally got points from Dayne Phillips, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Patrick Murphy and Mitchell Pozsonyi, who each chipped in one. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 44 shots on Port Colborne's net. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Myles Falasca as well. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Mike Casale, who had two and Joseph Monticchio and Josh Villaflor, who contributed one a piece. The Pirates ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryan Komasara was ejected from the game. Joe Lepera recorded 38 saves for the Warriors. Stoney Creek totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Warriors, Harry Polyoka was ejected from the game.
