Niagara Falls wins tough contest against Fort Erie, 3-2Fort Erie Leisureplex Wed, Mar 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Falls Canucks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Fort Erie Meteors. Niagara Falls gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Wiley 2:51 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win by the Canucks clinched the best of seven series at 0-4. Niagara Falls was sparked by Wiley, who registered one goal. The Canucks' offense rang up 43 shots on Fort Erie's net. Niagara Falls could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 21 minutes in penalties during the game. The Canucks were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Niagara Falls also got points from Grant McLean, who also had one goal and one assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Sloan Stewart as well. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Frank Nemeth, who had one and Drew Berkel, who had three. The Meteors forced Niagara Falls goalie Cody Vinnai to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Fort Erie was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 39 penalty minutes. The Meteors were helped by Brock Malatches, who racked up one goal and one assist. Malatches scored on the power play 16:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fort Erie. Fort Erie had gained a power play chance when Brad Kri was whistled for tripping. Jesse Parker assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Matt Stuart and Nathan Judd-Warren, who each chipped in one. Cody Vinnai made 38 saves for the Canucks on 40 shots. Niagara Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vito Scaringi was ejected from the game. Stuart recorded 40 saves for the Meteors. Fort Erie registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Meteors, Nik Passero was ejected from the game.
