Niagara Falls uses big second period to beat Fort Erie, 7-1

The Niagara Falls Canucks scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Fort Erie Meteors and clinch a 7-1 win.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Fort Erie faces elimination next time out.

Niagara Falls was led by goalie Cody Vinnai, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Vinnai certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.75 entering the contest.

The Canucks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 52 penalty minutes.

Niagara Falls made Meteors' goalies to work all game long, launching 45 shots and forcing 38 saves. Connor Visca made 26 stops and Matt Stuart made 12. The Canucks stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara Falls got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Canucks were helped by Vito Scaringi, who registered one goal and one assist. Scaringi scored 4:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. Jake Noel provided the assist. Niagara Falls also got points from Peter Hermenegildo, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Cam Stewart, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Cam McLean, who also had one goal and two assists, and Garrett Gallardi, who also registered one goal and one assist. Drew Berkel also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Grant McLean, who had one, Ryan Wiley, who had two, and Sloan Stewart, who had three.

Fort Erie forced Niagara Falls goalie Vinnai to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Meteors was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 12 chances with a man advantage.

Fort Erie was led by Nik Passero, who scored the team's only goal. Passero scored 18:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Aaron Wanat assisted on the tally.

The Canucks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Meteors incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
