GAME RECAP

St. Catharines blows out Buffalo, 5-1

Buffalo State College Arena    Tue, Feb 28, 2012

The Buffalo Jr. Blades had trouble finding ways to stop the St. Catharines Falcons, which beat Jr. Blades, 5-1.

The win moved St. Catharines to down 1-0 in the best of seven series.

The Falcons' Brad Pope was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Pope will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Ben Dubois was all over the ice for St. Catharines, as he racked up two goals in the win. Dubois found the back of the net 10:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines and again while on the power play 10:29 into the third to make the score 4-0 St. Catharines.

The Falcons stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Catharines forced the Jr. Blades goalie Cory Sorrento to work between the pipes, taking 55 shots.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Matt Melo as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Kenny Bradford, who had three, Aaron Taylor, Andy Sturtz, and Spencer DeWolfe, who contributed one a piece, and Riley Jakobschuk and Johnson Andrews, who each chipped in two.

Buffalo struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 14 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

The Jr. Blades were led by Cody Teijeira, who scored the team's only goal. Teijeira scored 15:36 into the third period to make the score 4-1 St. Catharines. Brian Osieja assisted on the tally.

The Falcons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cory Sorrento made 50 saves for Buffalo on 55 shots. The Jr. Blades registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
