Dresden squeaks by Essex, 4-2

The Dresden Kings and the Essex 73s were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Dresden made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Josh Beatty secured the win for the Kings with a goal in the third period.

With the win, Dresden evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Beatty had two goals and one assist to lead the Kings. Beatty scored the first of his two goals at 9:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden. Dillon Liberty provided the assist. Beatty's next tally made the score 3-2 Dresden with 18:57 left in the third period. Jesse Allen assisted on the tally.

Dresden's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Dresden also got points from Alex Schmidt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Wendel Mertz, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Jim Rouse and Brennan Rainey, who each chipped in one.

The Kings were unable to stop Essex from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Essex was helped by Jordan Brohman, who finished with one goal. Brohman scored on the power play 6:16 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The 73s earned a power play opportunity when Cam Ross was put in the box for hooking. Kevin Boggs picked up the assist. Corey Beaulieu also scored for Essex. More assists for Essex came via Sean Ducharme, Tyler Pope-Ferguson, and Aaron Thibert, who contributed one a piece.

Brent Paxton made 32 saves for Dresden on 34 shots. The Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Taylor Speed rejected 20 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
