Whitby holds on for 3-2 win against Cobourg

The Cobourg Cougars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Whitby took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Cobourg storm back on a Taylor Pernerowski goal 11:21 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, the Cougars face elimination next time out.

The Fury were paced by Matt Davis, who registered one goal and one assist. Davis scored 1:37 into the third period to make the score Whitby. Taylor Best provided the assist.

Whitby also got points from Best, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Davis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Whitby got a goal from Sam Gray as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Chris Raguseo, Nick Neal, Devin Shore, and Peter Neal, who contributed one each.

Cobourg's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 36 shots put on Whitby's net.

Cobourg additionally got points from Pernerowski, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dylon McMahon also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Nick Marinac, Derek Foote, and Brett Gilmour, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Feaver turned away 34 pucks between the pipes for the Fury. Whitby ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and had no power play opportunities. The Fury ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Neal was ejected from the game. Keinan Brown recorded 22 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the Cougars, Loren Ulett was ejected from the game.
