Sidwell's hat trick boosts Trenton over Kingston, 4-1

The Kingston Voyageurs could not stop the Trenton Golden Hawks' Josh Sidwell, who tallied a hat trick in a 4-1 win.

Sidwell's first goal came 8:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:59 into the second and at 19:15 into the second.

The win moved Trenton to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Kingston's power play was ineffective against the Golden Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 16 penalties during the game.

Trenton stifled the Voyageurs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Golden Hawks' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 37 shots put on Kingston's net. Trenton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Golden Hawks average one goal per game. Trenton found itself short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. The leading offender was Miles MacLean, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Trenton got a goal from Kent McPherson as well. More assists for Trenton came via Randy Gazzola and Shawn Hulshof, who contributed one each and Spencer MacCormack and Chris Brown, who each chipped in two.

The Voyageurs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Ludlow Harris, who totaled two minutes in penalty time with one minor.

Kingston was led by David McMullen, who scored the team's only goal. McMullen scored 2:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingston.

Spencer Finney recorded 24 saves for the Golden Hawks. Trenton registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Voyageurs' Charlie Finn stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
