Vaughan beats Toronto Lakeshore, 6-3 in penalty-filled game

The Vaughan Vipers took down the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, 6-3, in a game characterized by a plethora of penalties on both sides.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Toronto Lakeshore faces elimination next time out.

Vaughan forced Patriots' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Joseph Pianta made 24 stops and Cory Simic made five. The Vipers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Vaughan was led by Ryan Clarkson, who registered two goals and one assist. Clarkson scored the first of his two goals at 16:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Clarkson's next tally made the score 4-3 Vaughan with 11:35 left in the third period. A slashing call on Anthony Mastrodicasa put the Vipers on the penalty kill. Travis Fulton provided the assist. Vaughan also got a goal from John Carpino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Vaughan were Matt Sollows, who had two and Matt Silcoff, Ryan Rumble, Michael Apreda, and Robert Ward, who contributed one a piece.

The Patriots' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Toronto Lakeshore finished with 18 penalty minutes.

The Patriots were led by Daniel Tedesco, who tallied three goals. In addition, Toronto Lakeshore received assists from Robbie Murden, who had two and Tyler Enns, Shane Cavalieri, Josh Wiley, and Brandon Willett, who each chipped in one.

Victor Adamo recorded 25 saves for Vaughan. The Vipers registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Toronto Lakeshore registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Enns was ejected from the game.
