St. Michaels' Sumi deadly on offense in 6-2 win against Toronto

Tommy Sumi had two goals to lead the St. Michaels Buzzers to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Junior Canadiens.

Sumi scored at 15:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 14:54 into the third to make the score 5-2 St. Michaels.

The win gave St. Michaels a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Buzzers kept Toronto's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jamie Phillips made 35 saves on 41 shots.

St. Michaels also got points from Taylor Clements, who also had one goal and one assist, Michael Neville, who also registered one goal and one assist, Anthony Rizzo, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Braedan Russell, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Mark Cooper, who had two and Josh Herrington, Daniel Milne, Erlich Doerksen, David Italiano, Nathan Feric, and Patrick McCarron, who contributed one each.

The Junior Canadiens' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 40 shots put on St. Michaels' net.

Toronto was helped by Matt Carey, who finished with one goal and one assist. Carey scored 11:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto. Mike Mirabelli picked up the assist. Toronto additionally got points from David Friedmann, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Toronto came via Jordan Ramsay, who had one.

The Buzzers' Adrian Ignagni stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. St. Michaels totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Buzzers ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and CJ Shugart was ejected from the game. The Junior Canadiens totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. For Toronto, Matt Galati was ejected from the game.
